PHILIP GLASS & MAKI NAMEKAWA PORTRAITS FOR ALBUM ARTWORK http://www.bitesnich.com/good-news/article/philip-glass-maki-namekawa-portraits-for-album-artwork/ I am very proud to reveal that my portraits of Philip Glass and pianist Maki Namekawa were chosen to adorn the new CD and download artwork of Glass’s The complete Piano Etudes performed by Maki Namekawa. Maki Namekawa's portrait was taken during rehearsals in New York, and the portrait of Glass was taken during a sitting last year in Linz, Austria. It was an especial honour for me, as I have always been a great fan of Philip Glass and a huge admirer of Maki Namekawa, and am now looking forward to the upcoming premiere in New York. Philip Glass – The complete Piano Etudes performed by Maki Namekawa can be pre-ordered on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/philip-glass-complete-piano/id928609780 I am very proud to reveal that my portraits of Philip Glass and pianist Maki Namekawa were chosen to adorn the new CD and download artwork of Glass’s The complete Piano Etudes performed by Maki Namekawa. Maki Namekawa's portrait was taken during rehearsals in New York, and the portrait of Glass was taken during a sitting last year in Linz, Austria. NEW BOOK & EXHIBITION MUTTI - A CONCEPTIONAL WORK http://www.bitesnich.com/good-news/article/mutti-a-conceptional-work-book-exhibition/ Join us for the opening of my new exhibition MUTTI at the Lomography Embassy Vienna on the 14th October 7pm start. I will also be presenting a signed limited edition Mutti book (100 copies) to accompany the exhibition. Mutti - a conceptional workMemory is a strange thing. We tend to think of ourselves as cameras, recording events which we can truthfully and repeatedly recall without distortion. Yet each time we remember an event, a person, those memories become slowly and inevitably modified. Just as the cells in our bodies replicate to survive and grow, so our memories adapt, looking close to the original here and there, but altering enough to enable us to fit them comfortably into the myths of our individual lives. Our reality is a reproduction of a copy.If our own lives are already prone to this distortion, what remains of the dead? How much does our faith in the veracity of media interfere and reflect in this process? Photographs can assist in recalling, and even entirely replace, an actual memory, but like our memories they are also prone to the attritional effects of time. In reevaluating and rephotographing these images of my mother (originally taken by friends or other family members, as well as by myself), the process is emphasized and accelerated. This process, which is slow and often quite unintentional, allows us to create our own history, and yet with each replication of memory the reality behind it fades gradually away. Just like life itself.Andreas H. BitesnichThe exhibition will run until 25th October. 25 YEARS OF PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION http://www.bitesnich.com/good-news/article/25-years-of-photography-exhibition/ My latest exhibition '25 years of photography' opened last week at Vienna's Kunst Haus. The timing was significant, as it is exactly 10 years since my first exhibition there, and it coincided with my 50th birthday. Producing this second exhibition was an exciting project. The Kunst Haus Wien is a vast exhibition space, on two huge floors, but it was still a challenge editing 25 years of imagery, together with curator Andreas Hirsch. The response on the two opening nights was overwhelming, and made all the hard work worthwhile. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this exhibition such a rewarding experience. You can see pictures from the opening nights HERE. The exhibition runs through until 9th June 2014. ANDREAS H.
